  Automotive - Modifications and Conversions

Since 2005 I have been heavily involved in working on projects and Subarus. My interests lie within modifying and converting parts on cars. However, years of needing to DIY just about everything has meant I have learned many skills such as servicing engines, gearboxes, bearings, suspension, brakes, etc.

I started the website OffroadingSubarus in 2005 dedicated to the 4WDing Subaru community. It includes articles by myself and other enthusiasts. Over the years it has grown becoming a good medium to show what I have archived in regards to skills working on cars.

I have worked on a large variety of different cars and 4WD's doing jobs including; changing clutches, replacing head gaskets, welding exhausts, repairing radiators, complete engine changes with adapter plate, starter motor rebuilds, manual gearbox synchro servicing and many more.

I have also done extensive work with modifying and converting, including; EFI engine conversion in Subaru Brumby, gear ratio and diff ratio changes in 5 speed Subaru gearbox, folded aluminium custom cosmetic dashboard console, wheel fender flaring, relay wiring headlights, etc.

Below are some photos of previous work I have completed:

Installing a 1991 Subaru Brumby Engine with 5 speed L series gearbox into 1983 Leone.

Finished 2.5 inch exhaust for said car above.

Custom gearbox cross member to fit 5 speed 4WD gearbox in the once 2WD Subaru Leone.

Adjustment to rear suspension swing arm to solve a rear toe out problem.

Modifying a start motor to work with a different flywheel.

Modifying control arms on Subaru Brumby to gain positive caster angle and negative camber for better offroad racing performance.

Subaru Liberty 2.2 litre EFI motor with 5 speed custom built gearbox ready to be installed into a Subaru Brumby.

Said engine above being installed.

Liberty wiring loom cut down process. taking the loom back to only vital engine components.

Testing the wiring loom before tidying it up and installing it into the car.

Cleaned up loom ready to install into Brumby.

Gearbox shift fork from L series wagon modified to fit Liberty wagon.

Rear differential being prepared for welding.

4 Stud Subaru hubs being redrilled to suit 6 Stud Toyota wheels.

4 Stud hubs converted to 6 Stud.

Changing the clutch.

4WD Racing at Loveday 4x4 Riverland Challenge competition. Finding out the hard way car's are not meant to fly!

Problem solving on the go trailing repairs and making modifications.

Limits of the car found, afterwards we pushed the strut back in and drove it off the track. 6 Months later fixed the car for another competition and came in 2nd place.
